Keep reading below to find more about cleaning makeup stains out of carpet!
Step #1: Identify the type of makeup before cleaning makeup stains out of carpet.
Different products require different cleaning methods! For instance, when it comes to foundation – a thick, gloopy substance with plenty of pigment – you’ll want to act especially fast. Immediately after a foundation spill, use a clean butter knife to scrape any excess from the carpet. Then, combine a few drops of dish soap with cold water. Lightly dampen a cloth or paper towel with the soap mixture and gently blot at the stain. Make sure you’re working from the outside in, and don’t rub the foundation further into the carpet. Continue to dab at the stain until no foundation remains. Then, blot the stain with a clean wet cloth, and then a clean DRY cloth to wring out any remaining traces of soap. After that, simply vacuum over the area and you should be good to go!
What about eyeliner?
Eyeliner can be tricky due to how dark and concentrated it is – especially the liquid variety. Again, it’s always best to act as quickly as possible to avoid long-term damage. You can always attempt to use the same process recommended for foundation above, but if that doesn’t work, here’s an even stronger solution.
Mix together 1/2 cup of warm water along with one teaspoon of white vinegar. Dab a cloth into the mixture. Again, blot at the stain from the outside in and make sure not to rub! Continue to blot until you can no longer see any traces of eyeliner. After that, use a clean wet cloth to absorb any of the vinegar solution from the carpet, and then blot dry with paper towel or a dry cloth. Simply vacuum the area, and you should be golden!
Other at-home products that can be used for cleaning makeup stains out of carpet:
Makeup remover can be used for more than just your face! It’s designed to remove even the stubbornness forms of makeup, so it’s worth giving it a try on your carpets as well. If you have lighter-colored carpets at home, you could also use a diluted mixture of water and hydrogen peroxide. We wouldn’t recommend this for darker carpets as hydrogen peroxide does have bleaching tendencies.
