Uh oh! Dog pooped on the carpet? It happens to the best of us, especially when it comes to introducing a new dog to your home. Puppy training isn’t easy. There are lots of little messes that come along the way! Thankfully, Dazzle CC is here to help. Read below for our easy how-to guide on getting those stains out of your precious carpets.
Step one: act QUICKLY if your dog pooped on the carpet!
There’s no time to waste. The longer you allow the mess to sit, the more likely it is that you aren’t going to be able to get rid of the stain. Try to pick up and dispose of as much of the waste as possible to reduce the amount that sinks into the carpet.
Step two: get rid of the excess!
Once the primary mess has been dealt with, it’s time to use a moist paper towel or a baby wipe to scrape up as much as you can from the carpet fibers.
Step three: let’s start cleaning!
Go ahead and combine a solution of two cups cold water, one tablespoon of liquid non-bleach dish soap and one tablespoon white vinegar. Be sure to double-check that there’s no bleach in the dish soap to avoid lightening your carpets!
Step four: BLOT, don’t rub!
Spray or pour a small amount of your homemade cleaning solution directly onto the stain. BLOT, don’t rub, at the stain until the cleaning liquid is absorbed. Repeat until you can no longer see the stain. Be patient! This could take a lot of time and effort. Be sure not to rub at the area, as this could actually spread the feces further and make the stain even worse. Pro tip: use old rags or torn up clothing you no longer wish to keep so that you can simply toss them out once finished.
Step five: almost done!
Once the stain has disappeared, spray or pour a small amount of cold water onto the area. Blot it up with a new cloth to remove any excess cleaning solution from your carpet and carpet pad.
Step 6: the waiting game!
Allow the carpet to dry, and once it has, sprinkle baking soda onto the affected area. Let the baking soda sit for ten minutes before vacuuming the carpet. This will help to eliminate any possible odor.
