Spring Cleaning: It’s that time of year again, Vancouver! The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, the days are getting warmer, brighter, and longer. With all that added sunlight shining in, it’s hard to ignore the beating our homes go through during wet Vancouver winters. Find A Checklist

There are a myriad of Spring cleaning checklists out there, find a few and use them to make your own list. Having multiple lists to reference will give you a variety of cleaning tasks to choose from. This will give you a chance to assess what needs to be done in your own home. Since you don’t have to make your own checklist from scratch, you’ll save time and end up with more time to clean!

Go Room By Room

It can be really daunting to start a spring cleaning checklist. Looking at the mountain of tasks in front of you can be incredibly overwhelming. So, break it down room by room – divide and conquer. It’s really rewarding to see your efforts paying off quickly and when you work room by room you can feel accomplished throughout the day. This also keeps you motivated along the way and prevents you from turning your entire house upside down and then realizing it’s time to cook dinner. 

Get Into New Habits

Once you have your checklist and you’ve divided up your task into rooms, you can start cleaning! But instead of carving out 2 days of pure torturous cleaning that leave you burnt out and cowering at the sight of your dustpan, plan to do the cleaning over a 2 week period. Work for fifteen to thirty minutes each day, going room by room, checking things off your list. You’ll accomplish more when you’re tackling your tasks with a fresh body and mind and you’ll create great habits moving forward that will help keep your home looking dazzling.

Clear the Clutter

Start your spring cleaning with four boxes, label each: Put Away, Store, Donate, and Trash. As you make your way room to room, assess each item in the room and decide if it needs to be put in a box. At the end of each cleaning session, return the Put Away items to their proper homes. As the boxes for Donate, Store, and Trash fill up, act accordingly and at the end of your spring cleaning your home will be entirely decluttered.

Top To Bottom

When you’re cleaning each space, be sure to start cleaning items that are higher in the room as you will inevitably knock some dust down while you’re cleaning. Start by dusting the upper corners of the room, shaking out or washing the curtains, cleaning any windows or picture frames and then the surfaces of any tables or bookcases. Work your way from top to bottom to ensure you won’t have to clean anything twice. Once you’ve finished decluttering and cleaning all the upper areas of the house, it’s time to clean the carpets.
