Happy Friday, Vancouver! We at Dazzle CC know how hard it can be to keep your carpets clean, so we’ve made a list of our favourite tips and tricks to help keep your home looking and feeling its best.
Blot Stains, Don’t Rub Them
The most important of the tips and tricks – Blot, Don’t Rub! Use a clean dry cloth to gently dab the spill, never use a rubbing motion as it pushes the spill deep into the fibres increasing the chance of it becoming a permanent stain. Work from the edges of the spill inwards to stop the spread.
Use Diluted Vinegar
If the spill was acidic in nature (tomato juice, coffee, tea), use an acidic remover. After blotting up the majority of the spill, make a dilution of 4 parts water to one part vinegar in a spray bottle, spray a little of the solution on the area and blot again, repeat this process until the spill is gone.
Baking Soda for Greasy Messes
After blotting up the majority of the spill, sprinkle baking soda over the soiled area. Let that sit for 30 minutes and it will absorb the grease. Use a vacuum cleaner to remove the baking soda and the grease stain with it.
Keep Away from Store-bought Stain Removers
Many store-bought stain removers contain very acidic or very basic ingredients, neither of which are good for the longevity of your carpet. Some even contain bleaches and peroxides that can permanently discolor your carpet.
Gum on a carpet can be a total disaster, but it doesn’t have to be. Get an ice cube from the freezer and place it over the gum for 30-45 seconds, use a spoon to pry up the gum and a pair of scissors to snip just below the gum, being careful to not remove too much.
Eliminate Pet Hair with a Squeegee
That rubber squeegee isn’t just for windows and shower doors anymore! Use a clean squeegee on your carpet or upholstery to quickly and easily remove all kinds of pet hair.
Use Area Rugs to Protect High Traffic Areas
If you notice traffic patterns occurring on your carpets, use an area rug to protect your investment. You can remove them when you have company to show off your luxurious and well preserved carpet underneath.
Establish a Cleaning Schedule
One of our easiest tips and tricks is to make a regular vacuuming schedule to protect the longevity of your carpets. Dirt and other particles trapped in the fibres of the carpet can have a sand-papering effect on the fibres, so removing them as soon as possible is important.
Even with regular vacuuming, there will inevitably be dirt and dust in the carpet that you just can’t remove yourself. We suggest one to two deep cleanings per year for a family of 4. Our hot water extraction method uses eco-friendly cleaners and water heated to 230 degrees fahrenheit to clean and rinse your carpets down to the base of the fibres, leaving you with cleaner carpets and better air quality in your home.
Invest in Protection
We offer Ultra-Protection for carpets and upholstery, to help prevent future spills becoming stains. With our specially designed polymer based protector, your carpet fibres are wrapped in a protective layer all the way down the length of the fibres. This prevents spills from penetrating the fibres and makes them a snap to clean up.
