Dining chair cleaning in Richmond: prices, fabrics and what comes out

Upholstered dining chairs take more spills than any other furniture in the house. Soy sauce, chili oil, congee, juice, crayons and the odd glass of wine all land on them, and because they’re usually light-coloured fabric in a bright room, every mark shows. Richmond homes host big family dinners, so a set of six or eight chairs can go from fresh to tired in a few months. Here’s what a professional clean does, what it costs, and how to keep them looking good.

What it costs

Dining chairs are priced per chair. Prices are before the current promo, plus GST.

Seat and back upholstered$30$10
Seat only upholstered$20$8

The minimum visit is $210. A set of six chairs with seat and back is $180, so most people add the sofa or a carpeted room to the same visit:

Food and oil stains

Dining chair stains are mostly food, and food stains are mostly oil, sugar and colour. Each needs its own approach:

  • Oil and grease (chili oil, cooking oil, hand oils on the top of the backrest) need a degreasing pre-treatment before any water touches them. Water first just spreads the ring.
  • Sugary spills (juice, pop, sauces) attract dirt and go sticky and dark. They rinse out well with the right method.
  • Coloured stains (soy sauce, curry, red wine) are the hardest. Most come out a long way. Old set-in colour can leave a shadow, and we’ll tell you before we start.

We check the fabric first and test a hidden spot, then clean with the method that suits it: low-moisture for delicate fabrics, hot water extraction for durable ones. Leather and faux-leather seats get a cleaner and conditioner instead.

Light fabrics

Cream, beige and light grey chairs are popular in Richmond’s newer condos and houses, and they show everything. Two tips:

  1. Blot, don’t rub. Rubbing pushes the stain deeper and roughs up the fabric.
  2. Skip coloured cleaners and household sprays. They can leave a bleached ring or a sticky patch that browns.

Is Ultra Protection worth it on dining chairs?

This is where it’s most worth it. At $10 a chair, Ultra Protection makes spills bead up long enough to wipe away, and it doesn’t change the look or feel. For a family that eats at the table every day, it’s the cheapest way to keep the chairs looking like the day we cleaned them.

Drying

Dining chairs are usually dry in a few hours. Keep them away from the table until they’re dry to the touch, and open a window or run the fan to speed it up.

Book it

Count your chairs (seat and back, or seat only) and book upholstery cleaning in Richmond online to see the total. We work weekdays, 8:30 to 4, from City Centre and Brighouse to Steveston, Broadmoor and Terra Nova. Got a light sectional too? Our light-coloured sectional guide covers it.

Common questions

Do you clean leather or faux-leather chairs? Yes, with a leather cleaner and conditioner instead of water extraction.

Can you clean the chairs and leave the table? Yes. We only need room to set each chair down.

Do I need to send a photo? It helps. A photo of the chairs when you book lets the technician come ready for the fabric.
