One of our greatest passions at Dazzle CC is giving back to the community and taking care of the environment that we live in. It’s why we use only eco-friendly products and practice safe and healthy cleaning methods. It isn’t just important to us in the workplace, though. We take our values home with us, and today we’d like to share a few of our favorite tips and tricks for reducing waste at home.
Reducing waste at home: easier than you think!
We throw out dozens of pieces of trash every single day. By stopping to consider what’s reusable or recyclable, we can help stop landfills from growing and polluting the environment.
1.) If you haven’t already, START COMPOSTING!
This is one of the fastest and easiest ways to reduce waste at home. There’s two ways you can go about this: one, you can start using a compost bag and simply take it outside with the trash every week, or if you happen to have a garden, you can use your everyday foot scraps to feed your plants! Either way, it’s a win-win solution, and it’ll help keep as much waste out of our landfills as possible.
2.) Stop receiving junk mail!
You know what it is – useless flyers and advertisements showing up in your mailbox that you throw out every single day. Take yourself off of their mailing list by phoning in or contacting the company directly via email, and they’ll stop sending you things! It might seem like a bit of an inconvenience at first, but think of how nice your coffee table will look without all of that unnecessary junk mail.
3.) Learn to repair rather than discard.
Every year, millions of Canadians throw away hundreds and thousands of pounds of things that they consider garbage, but think about it this way – the next time one of your lamps stops working or you tear the laces on your shoes, take a moment to see if there’s an easy way to fix them rather than purchasing something brand new. This’ll save you money in the long run AND lessen the amount of waste leaving your home!
4.) Stop using disposable plates and cutlery!
It’s worth it to wash dishes when you consider the amount of garbage caused by paper plates and plastic utensils. Make washing dishes a fun family activity – dad can wash and the kids can dry!
5.) BUY A REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE!
The trash caused by plastic water bottles and paper cups cannot be overstated. They are a MASSIVE waste of materials. Treat yourself to a cute water bottle or a handy coffee thermos – you’ll find yourself reaching for it more often than not, and you’ll remain more hydrated as a result!
