Carpet cleaning in Deep Cove: trail mud, wet dogs and damp winters
Deep Cove homes see more weather than most. Between the Baden-Powell and Quarry Rock trails, the paddle boards, the wet dogs and nine months of rain, the carpet by the door and up the stairs takes a beating. Houses in Deep Cove, Dollarton and the Seymour area often have carpeted bedrooms upstairs, a rec room downstairs and stairs in between. Here’s how we clean it and what it costs.
What Deep Cove carpet is up against
Trail grit. Dried mud and fine gravel are abrasive. They get ground into the base of the fibres at every doorway and on every stair.
Wet dogs. Damp fur leaves an oily film and a smell in the spots the dog likes best: by the door, at the foot of the bed, on the stairs.
Damp lower floors. Houses built into the hillside often have a lower floor that runs cool and damp, which keeps carpet smelling musty if it isn’t cleaned and dried properly.
How we clean it
- A walkthrough to agree on what’s being cleaned, and to spot the problem areas.
- Pre-treatment on traffic lanes, stairs, entry paths and pet spots, with an enzyme treatment for odour.
- Truck-mounted hot water extraction. The unit stays in the driveway and the hose comes in. Hot water loosens the grit, and the suction pulls it and the water back out.
- Grooming so the pile dries evenly, and a final walkthrough with you.

Drying in a damp house
Most carpet is dry in 3 to 6 hours. On a cool lower floor, turn the heat up, open a window and run a fan for the afternoon. Keep the dog off until it’s dry, and keep muddy boots at the door.
Keeping it clean between visits
- A boot tray and a washable mat at every door to the outside.
- A towel by the door for the dog’s paws and belly.
- Vacuum the stairs and entries slowly twice a week in the wet months.
- A rug at the bottom of the stairs catches a lot, and it’s $90 or $65 to clean.
